Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany embraced Morgan Rogers as the pair crossed paths at the end of Aston Villa's famous victory over the Bavarian giants on Wednesday night. Substitute Jhon Duran scored the only goal with a little over ten minutes to go to seal a second Champions League win in succession for Villa, who now must fancy their chances to qualify for at least the next round of the competition.

Rogers was conducting his post match interview with TNT Sports panel Laura Woods, Ashley Young and Rio Ferdinand, pitchside, after the win. As he made his way back towards the tunnel and back to the changing room having donated his shirt to a young supporter who had waited after the final whistle for him, Rogers was met with the towering frame of former Burnley boss Kompany.

The pair would've crossed paths in the Championship in 2023, when Rogers was on loan at Blackpool and faced Kompany's Burnley. Kompany shook the young playmaker's hand and exchanged brief words before he continued in order to conduct his own media duties. Rogers, meanwhile, paid tribute to his own manager, Unai Emery, for the job he'd done in helping him to continue developing.

"It's about having good people around you, being patient and knowing your time will come," Rogers said. "Luckily I've found a manager who trusted and believed in me. When I came here he kind of took me under his wing and tried to improve me. I'm only getting better and better and it's thanks to him.

"I was maybe a little bit in my shell when I first came, just trying to fit in, but he tells me to take touches on the ball, to drive, to commit. Most of the time he's telling me off for passing too early. He wants me to show what I'm about, so he just gives me confidence and belief in my abilities to go and show what I can do. I'm not always going to get it right, but I have a manager who is trusting me and behind me."
