Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany said it feels like a fortnight ago that they played against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen because he has prepared so thoroughly for the Champions League clash against Aston Villa.

The German giants drew 1-1 with Leverkusen on Saturday, while Villa played out a 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town 24 hours later. Under new boss Kompany, Bayern have won six of their first seven games in all competitions this season and have scored a total of 30 goals.

Bayern come into the game as the overriding favourites, but Kompany is expecting a tough game against Villa, who are hosting their first match in Europe's elite club competition in 41 years.

"You all know that it is over 40 years since their last Champions League home match," Kompany said in his press conference. "Last year was extraordinary for Aston Villa. They deserve to be here.

"They are well organised and at home they have fantastic support. But Bayern Munich is used to these nights. We want to have fun as well.

"I think everything that Aston Villa does is very clear. They are well organised, you can see that easily. You can see what they want to achieve in every stage of the game. They are very compact.

"It is similar to Leverkusen. Between the lines there is little space and they want to be dangerous on the counter attack. Aston Villa do that very well and that’s why they had so much success last season."

The Belgian added: "It feels like two weeks ago since we played Bayer because we have prepared so thoroughly to face Aston Villa."
