Actors who do their own stunts are few and far between, but even action hero Tom Cruise can't keep it up forever.

The Hollywood superstar is now 56 and his Mission: Impossible - Fallout co-star Ving Rhames has suggested he should take it easy from now on.

"I was in Los Angeles, getting ready to go to London [when Tom broke his ankle]. I'm sorry he got injured, but [director Christopher] McQuarrie got more time to work on the script and I stayed home," he told Empire magazine.

"Tom's getting older now. I know he loves doing his own stunts, but as a friend, after we get the close-up, maybe we should let the stunt guy do it. Maybe."

He might have a point, Tom.

Famously, production on MI6 had to be shut down in August 2017 when Cruise injured his leg on set in London.

Filming resumed in October, but is this the motivation a studio needs to take Tom off stunt duties and use a professional instead?

Co-star Henry Cavill often completes his own stunts too, but on Fallout there was one testing sequence he wasn't permitted to take part in.

During an appearance on Good Morning America in July, Henry Cavill revealed the scene in question.

"I got to do all my own stuff apart from one! I could not do, and this was the most heartbreaking thing for me, a HALO [High Altitude, Low Opening] jump.

"Jumping out of a C17 at dusk was my idea of magic, and I was praying they'd let me do it, begging Tom… Tom eventually said to me, 'I understand what you're saying. I'd love for you to do it, but if you do, the chances are you will kill me and everyone else in the process'."

In the end, only Mr Cruise was allowed to do the stunt, although he had to complete "hundreds of hours of jumping" to prepare.
