A former window cleaner has gone viral in recent years after millions of people on TikTok found his unique hobby satisfying to watch. The man travels across the nation cleaning traffic signs. Originally the sign cleaning was a one-off, but now millions of international fans tune in to watch him restore signs to their former glory.

Liam Wildish, 27, originally from Retford, Nottinghamshire, was a window cleaner in his younger years and started this now-viral hobby to say thank you to the local community who supported him when he started his own business. In recent weeks he decided to take his wholesome activities to Derbyshire as he visited Chatsworth House for the day.

Liam is now a spray painter by profession, but since his sign-cleaning ventures have gone viral. He has been up and down the country cleaning local signs to the joy of his followers on social media and local communities. Since then he has moved to Oxted in Surrey but continues to do his bit in his home territory of the East Midlands.

The more Liam posts, the more places he is recommended to visit by his loyal followers, which now amount to 287,000. Liam originally started the videos back in 2019 and gained a lot of traction on Facebook and in local news publications. However, since starting his social media videos Liam thought he might hit more of a niche on TikTok, which has led him to his newfound internet stardom.

Liam said: “The Derbyshire signs I caught were by chance. I was going to the Peak District to visit Chatsworth House. I was passing through and I saw that there were so many signs that needed to be done so I just jumped out and got to it. I probably did about 40 signs on the A6 from Matlock to Derby. I get loads of people shouting out their windows as they go past and beeping their horns. People love it, I have a big international audience with loads of people in Brazil and Indonesia loving the content.”

Some of his videos have amassed 40 million views, with his regular uploads gaining anywhere between 250,000 and three million views.

He said: “I always carry the kit around so I am always prepared. It's only a little backpack, and all I need is a bit of water to get on with it. The local community was supportive so I just started it out as a bit of a thank you. I just really enjoy doing the signs so I have done it for about five years now. People find it very satisfying and I started doing TikToks about a year and a half ago but it’s been on other social media for years.”

While Liam does plan the sign-cleaning trips himself his loyal followers often send in what signs need doing next. Liam also hinted that he will be coming back to Derbyshire soon as it is one of his most requested spots in the county.

Liam continued: “I’m not really a spiritual person but I think I get really good karma from doing it. The community around my posts is so supportive as well, there are never any negative comments which you usually get on social media so it's a really nice space.”

Liam can be found on TikTok under the name "The Sign Guy" or the handle of "cleanscenelondon" where he posts his satisfying sign cleans.
