Virgin Galactic Completes First Fully Crewed Spaceflight

Virgin Galactic launched its first fully crewed spaceflight, with founder Richard Branson aboard, on Sunday, July 11.

Valerie Stimac filmed this footage that shows Virgin Galactic’s rocket-powered test flight launching from Spaceport America in Sierra County, New Mexico. Stimac’s footage also shows the plane touching back down after its flight.

Virgin Galactic aims to provide “human spaceflight for private individuals and researchers,” according to its website. Branson joined Sunday’s test flight to “evaluate the private astronaut experience,” the company said. Credit: Valerie Stimac/SpaceTourismGuide.com via Storyful
