From Country Living

Everyone has their repertoire of tried-and-true recipes that eventually become a part of the weekly menu. But when you've been cooped up at home for weeks on end and constantly cooking, even family favorites can become a bore. That's when it's time to look to your phone, tablet, or laptop for a little extra help. More specifically, it's time to sign up for some virtual cooking classes.

Whether you've always wanted to learn how to properly slice and dice or need ideas for innovative recipes and pairings, there's an online class for you. You'll be amazed at how quickly you're able to spice up dinner time. But don't stop there. You absolutely should keep the good times (and the good kind of screen time) going by hosting virtual game nights, virtual book club, and virtual birthday parties. But first thing first: You gotta learn to cook some good stuff.

Tune in to these classes:

The Chef & The Dish

If you can use Skype, you can cook "next" to a pro chef thanks to The Chef & The Dish. While the site offers virtual cooking classes for everything from Thai cuisine to at-home date nights, there's one offering that's perfect for right now: What's In Your Fridge? The limited-time class connects you with a professional chef who will take a look at what you have on hand and guide you through making an amazing meal.

The Kids' Table

The Chicago-based cooking school is just for budding chefs, but you'll probably pick up a few fun new recipes while you cook with your little one. They host classes via Facebook Live (but there's also an archive available in case you've missed anything) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Particularly interesting: Family Pizza Party, which happens every Friday and includes ultra-creative ideas like enchilada pizza and butternut squash Fontina pizza.

Quar Eye with Antoni Porowski

Queer Eye's food pro launched an Instagram channel show specifically for stuck-at-home cooks ("Quar" is short for "Quarantine," after all). The meal ideas are simple yet special, made with ingredients you probably already have on hand, and focused on making you feel comforted rather than cooped-up.

Cooking in Quarantine at the New Orleans Culinary & Hospitality Institute

It's "Office Hours With a Chef" at this pay-what-you-can class held on Tuesdays and Thursdays via Zoom. The recipes change based on what the chef is up for (you'll get notice beforehand so you can pick up ingredients if you'd like to cook along). Classes are interactive, so you can ask questions as they come up or just enjoy the company of your classmates.

Complete Knife Skills via Bluprint

Online class portal Bluprint is offering free classes until April 16, so take advantage of your free time by brushing up on all the basics. While there are hundreds to choose from, the Complete Knife Skills by culinary pro Brendan McDermott is one that'll pay off no matter what you love to cook.

Haven's Kitchen

The New York City-based cooking school is going all-virtual in April, with a focus on comfort fare that will make your mouth water just thinking about it. You can learn how to make the perfect steak frites, pot pies, and fried chicken and biscuits, or brush up on your braising and pasta-making skills.

Annie's Signature Sweets

Whether you're a novice who has never baked anything beyond banana bread or practically a pastry pro, there's a virtual baking class made for you thanks to pastry chef Ann LoParo of the Rocky River, Ohio-based Annie's Signature Sweets. This month, you can learn how make macarons, babka, pretzels, cream puffs, eclairs, pies, cheesecakes, cookies, and so much more—all through Zoom.

Quarantine Kitchen with Seamus Mullen

When you need a break from heavy fare, tune in to this Los Angeles-based chef's nightly live cooking class on IGTV (9:30 ET/6:30 PT). The recipes and ideas largely build off of Mullen's passion for clean eating, making this a great opportunity to learn how to use all the veggies that are about to be in season.
