I visited café I had no idea was there and was glad I didn't order the toast
Last weekend, when the rain battered Liverpool, the last thing I wanted to do was leave my toasty bed. I was swayed by the offer of breakfast and promised it'd be worth the travel. I set aside my just awakened grumpiness, grabbed my big coat, and made my way to Liverpool Waters for what I soon discovered is the cosiest spot that side of town.
Moose Coffee is a Liverpool staple with sites all over the city. I'm familiar with the Hope Street and Dale Street locations, but it was news to me that another lay on Princes Dock. I've tried to call in a number of times, but the venue has always been too busy, so I've gone elsewhere.
Unbeknownst to me, my partner had pre-emptively booked a spot at the Liverpool Waters site, eliminating the illusion that I ever had a say in what that Sunday morning's activities would entail. Regardless, I was happy to finally experience Moose for myself.

I knew the menu offered massive helpings of American/Canadian favourites. The compact space, festive decorations, and perfectly heated space are what took me by surprise. I always assumed Moose was just your typical café, but it's phenomenally comforting, especially in harsher weather.
My partner and I were seated in the window to watch struggling passersby deal with the rain. It was bliss. There's no better way to appreciate the winter weather than by wrapping warm and remaining inside with a hot drink. I chose a delicious pumpkin spice hot chocolate that disappeared as quickly as it arrived.
The menu was stacked with more breakfast options I've seen on any menu. After much deliberation, I opted for two pancakes filled with chorizo and topped with fried eggs. I also ordered a side of poached eggs with hollandaise sauce out of sheer gluttony.
I'm glad I didn't order toast too because I struggled to finish the pancakes. They were thick, fluffy, and delicious. A generous pot of syrup was available to glaze the pancakes to my liking. Everything was mouthwatering—from the creamy canary yellow hollandaise to the hot chocolate helping wash down every bite.
Moose is the perfect spot for a cold, rainy morning and even thought its a lively space it doesn't feel overrun with customers even though its busy. It is the place to be for great atmosphere and even greater food.
