'I visited the Mediterranean style cafe that overlooks an iconic Cambridge landmark'
It's no secret that Cambridge has a plethora of wonderful cafes and restaurants to grab a bite to eat. From Indian and Italian to Greek and Gastropub, there's something to satisfy anyone's appetite.
A prime example of such a place is The Copper Kettle on King's Parade. The cafe has been serving Cambridge since the 1900's and is located opposite one of the city's most iconic landmarks - King's College Chapel.
With a vibrant mix of traditional and Mediterranean dishes, its not a huge surprise that this is a popular hotspot among both locals and tourists alike. Keeping this in mind, I decided to visit the cafe one lunchtime to see how good it was.

The venue
When I walked into the cafe, it didn't look too busy on the inside or the outside, but it had just gone midday, so I assumed it would start to fill up later in the afternoon. I managed to get a seat by the window near the entrance to allow myself to get a good look of the surroundings.
Immediately, I noticed that the cafe had a very modern look about it, with plenty of decorations, artwork and pictures on the wall providing customers with a glimpse of the venue's history. The large windows also gave a great view out onto the iconic chapel from where I was sitting and the overall vibe throughout each of the cafe's areas presented a very comfortable atmosphere.
The menu was packed full of Mediterranean style dishes, including Mixed Meze Platter, Lamb Moussaka, Moroccan Chickpea Casserole, and Chicken Kebabs, but there were also the traditional cafe offerings, such as salads, burgers, scones and cakes. Needless to say, I was very excited and eagerly anticipated my order.
The food
My food arrived within 10 minutes of placing my order. Always a good sign when the service is quick and since I was quite hungry, I was very happy. I decided to go for the Halloumi and Sweet Chilli Wrap, which came with chips and a side salad.
Admittedly, this is not something I would usually order at a cafe or restaurant, but I didn't want to have anything too filling or large and when I saw this, I thought 'why not?'.
Each item of food looking incredibly appetizing, so I had high hopes that it tasted as good as it looked and thankfully, it did. The halloumi wrap was very flavourful and the chips had the right level of crunch and seasoning.
Overall
After finishing my meal, I paid for what I had ordered and left. As I expected, the cafe had become absolutely packed in the time I spent there, with very few tables left either inside or outside, which really emphasized its popular reputation and after having lunch there, it was fully justified.
The Copper Kettle is definitely a place I would be more than happy to return to in the future. With great service, good food and a welcoming atmosphere, it is more than worth a visit if you're ever in Cambridge and not sure where to go for lunch. Even if you just want to get a good view of the chapel, I would recommend the cafe for that as well.
