I visited the village pub with a suntrap beer garden
Sutton-on-Hull is a quaint world away from the neighbouring hustle and bustle of Bransholme and nearby Holderness Road.
Across from St James' Church lies the Ship Inn. Out on my wanders, I noticed the pub had recently reopened and couldn't resist popping in for a quick pint on a nice day.
Having been in a few times over the years, I wanted to see if the village pub still has the old charm I remember.

From the outside, it looks like it had a fresh coat of paint and the chalkboard outside celebrated the reopening. Inside, the layout remains how I remember it with the table locations, telly, and even dartboard in the same place.
A pint of Guinness for £4.50 had me realise that I paid the exact same for a coffee in town that morning. The smell of paint was still fresh and the place was understandably immaculate. Pop music was playing as the barmaids were having a chat with the already established regulars.
The back garden is a bit of an unknown suntrap - and gives a nice view of the towering church. The entertainment sounded like they were preparing for the evening, with some sounds of "one, two, one, two" echoing from the background - I bet it's a great place to visit on a busy night.
It's clear that the new owners are trying to get Ship back to glory - they've been advertising for pool and darts teams ahead of their reopening, as well as putting on specials throughout the week like meat raffles, Halloween parties and '90s nights.
