Visitors Travel to See Kilauea After Overnight Eruption

The Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island erupted late on Sunday, December 20, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park said.

On Monday, visitors turned up at Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park to view the spectacle in daylight. This footage was taken in the park by Harrison Rice.

According to local media, the USGS said the lava was “completely contained” in the roughly 1,640-foot-deep crater so it did not pose a direct hazard to the public. Credit: Harrison Rice via Storyful
