Vivienne Westwood Protests in Support of Julian Assange From Inside a Cage Outside The Old Bailey

Fashion designer Vivienne Westwood sat in a giant bird cage outside London’s Old Bailey on July 21 to show support for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Assange is currently detained at Belmarsh prison while fighting extradition to the USA.

Westwood wore a yellow trouser suit for the protest, which she said was to evoke the image of a canary in a cage, used in the past to test for poisonous gases in a coal mine.

Speaking from the cage, Westwood said: “I am Julian Assange, I am the canary in the coal mine … but I’m half poisoned already because of government corruption and gaming of the legal system.” Credit: Don’t Extradite Assange Campaign via Storyful
