Russian president Vladimir Putin describes the nature of the terror attack in Westminster yesterday as “cunning and cynical” to Theresa May.

Strained diplomatic relations between Moscow and London were put to one side as Mr Putin passed on his sympathy and support to victims of Wednesday’s attack.

He also wished a speedy recovery to those injured and in a message of condolence to the Prime Minister, released by the Kremlin, added: “Terrorist attacks are becoming increasingly cunning and cynical.

“It is obvious that all members of the international community should join forces to stand up against the terrorist threat.”

Mrs May has already spoken to US president Donald Trump, German chancellor Angela Merkel, French president Francois Hollande and Romanian president Klaus Iohannis in the period since the attack.

She will speak to more foreign leaders over the course of Thursday, said Downing Street.
