VMAs: Kanye West Praised For Inpirational Speech, Complete With Subtle Taylor Swift Swipe

Kanye West has probably become the person that we most look forward to at every Video Music Awards.

Back in 2009 he created a now-infamous moment by interrupting Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech, sparking seven-years of beef in the process, and last year he rambled on for twenty minutes before inspiring himself so much that he declared that he’ll be running for President in 2020.

All of this combined with Kanye’s crazy reputation resulted in us all being seriously excited when it was announced that MTV had given Kanye four minutes to do whatever the hell he wants at last night’s VMAs, with producers being nervous when they still didn’t know what his plans were as guests started piling into Madison Square Garden last night.

However, Kanye surprised all of us by giving a brilliant speech that was half poignant and half incredibly subtle digs aimed at his famous enemies as he promised to only give “positive vibes” before introducing his new music video for track ‘Fade’.

In the speech, Kanye - whose music video for 'Famous’ was up for the Video Of The Year Award- shared: “I am Kanye West, and that feels especially great to say this year. I came here to present my new video, but before I do that, I’m going to talk.

"Now, later tonight, 'Famous’ might lose to Beyoncé, but I can’t be mad - I’m always wishing for Beyoncé to win. [Famous] was an expression of our now, our fame right now, us on the inside of the TV.

"The audacity to put Anna Wintour right next to Donald Trump… Like, I put Ray J in it, bro. This is fame. We came over in the same boat, now we are all in the same bed.”

Referencing his ongoing feud with Taylor after Kim Kardashian proved that Kanye had called Taylor to approve the controversial lyrics about her, he continued: “I love ya’ll, that’s why I called her.”

Moving on from the 'Famous’ drama, Kanye went on to comment on social issues surrounding America today, adding: “I was speaking at the Art Institute last year, and a kid came up to me and said ‘Three of my friends died, and I don’t know if I’m gonna be the next.’

"When you’re a senior and it’s the last month and you just don’t feel like doing any more work, if you feel like you’re seeing people dying right next to you, you might feel like, what’s the point?

"Life could start to feel worthless in a way. I know times for me, I sat down and talked to older, rich people - a.k.a white - and they told me, 'Don’t compare yourself to Steve Jobs. Don’t compare yourself to Walt Disney,’

"There’s three keys to keeping people impoverished: that’s taking away their esteem, taking away their resources, and taking away their role models. My role models are artists, merchants. There’s less than ten that I can name in history: Truman. Ford. Hughes. Disney. Jobs. West.

"Tonight, we are here to have fun. I’m standing in front of my idol, Puff Daddy. I’m standing in front of my wife, Kim Kardashian West. I’m standing in front of the future: Chance the Rapper, 2 Chainz, Jaden Smith; we are undeniably the influence, the thought leaders.”

Viewers took to social media to praise Kanye following his speech, writing:

And we have to admit, we completely agree.
