Tonight's (April 1) first Voice UK 2017 final kicked off with a powerful tribute to the late George Michael with a cover of the singer's iconic hit 'Freedom '90'.

And yes, it was as amazing as you could imagine, particularly Sir Tom Jones's and Jennifer Hudson's soaring vocals alongside will.i.am and Gavin Rossdale.

Just a few weeks ago, the The Voice UK played tribute to Michael – who passed away last year – with a beautiful performance from contestant Nadine McGhee.

After singing 'A Different Corner', coach Gavin got clearly emotional, telling the contestant: "We miss him so much. That performance made me think of his greatness."

Earlier this week, the late star's family confirmed he had been laid to rest in a "small, private ceremony".

The singer passed away from natural causes on Christmas Day 2016, leading to tributes from fans and celebrities.

Michael's Wham! bandmate Andrew Ridgeley paid tribute at the Brit Awards, telling fans: "George has left for us in his songs, in the transcendental beauty of his voice, and poetic expression of his soul, the very best of himself. I loved him and in return, we, you, have been loved."

Tonight's Voice UK final features Michelle John, Mo Adeniran, Into the Ark and Jamie Miller battling it out, before the eventual winner is declared tomorrow evening.

The Voice UK airs on ITV.
