New Volcanic Cone Is Born Among Siberian Mountains

A new cone that has formed on Siberia’s tallest volcano, Klyuchevskaya Sopka, was filmed shooting ash and molten rock into the air on March 8.

Volcano enthusiast and mountain climber Boris Smirnov embarked on a four-day expedition to film the new cone after reading reports of its formation.

“We were the second group to get there, and the first who spent the night. The lava was very hot, it had not cooled down yet, so it was not possible to climb up the cone,” Smirnov told Storyful.
