Who is Volodymyr Zelenskyy?

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is the 6th President of Ukraine having been elected on April 21 2019.

He was born in 1978 in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine and graduated from Kyiv National Economic University with a law degree.

Following his studies, the political novice became a television producer and presenter. He also did stand-up comedy.

With no prior political experience, in 2018, Zelenskyy announced that he would run for president with his ‘Servant of the People’ party.

The following April, he won the election with 73% of votes in the second round, making him the youngest ever Ukrainian President at the age of 41.

He has now become the face of Ukraine’s resistance against Russia’s invasion with numerous impassioned speeches, video selfies and his heroic decision to stay in the capital of Kyiv despite heavy shelling by the Russian army.
