Animated hit Voltron: Legendary Defender is returning to Netflix for a third season.

According to Den of Geek, Voltron's poster at New York Toy Fair revealed that 13 new episodes are dropping in September 2017.

On top of that, there's apparently going to be more Voltron hitting Netflix, as 10 episodes of classic Voltron are said to be arriving in March with "new content added".

And it doesn't stop there, because the report also claims that Voltron has a 78-episode commitment from Netflix, which means it could get six seasons.

Voltron: Legendary Defender – a flashy reinvention of the classic original – retells the story of five futuristic kids who must form "the greatest weapon ever known" in order to protect the innocent across their galaxy.

The original Voltron: Defender of the Universe cartoon aired in 1984, and spawned video games, movies and comic books.

It dropped its first 11 episodes on Netflix in June 2016, featuring an all-star group of voice actors - from The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun and Arrow's Bex Taylor-Klaus to the always-hilarious Flight of the Conchords comedian Rhys Darby.

"That [pre-teen] audience is underserved," executive producer Lauren Montgomery previously told Digital Spy.

"It's a strange thing, but I think there's still that mentality that 'animation is for kids' that exists in America and I hope that shows like Voltron are taking steps to change that."
