A car has been left completely destroyed by a fire in Gloucester. Photos have revealed the extent of the damage done to a Volvo which burst into flames on the A417 near Elmbridge Court and the A40 junction.

The fire erupted at around 5.45pm today (Tuesday, November 26), sparking long delays on the busy road. The A417 was closed between Barnett Way and the A40 while fire crews and police officers were at the scene.

No one was hurt in the fire, Gloucestershire Police said. Video footage captured huge flames at the scene with clouds of dark smoke pouring into the sky.

In a statement posted to Facebook, Gloucestershire Police Specialist Ops posted: "Thank you to the drivers of Gloucester for your patience this evening whilst @GlosPolSpecOps and @Glosfire dealt with a car fire near to Elmbridge Court.

"We are pleased to report that nobody was hurt."
