France is voting in the first round of parliamentary elections on Sunday with President Emmanuel Macron hoping to win a substantial majority to support his reform plans in the new National Assembly.

A resurgent and unified left, meanwhile, seeks to thwart his ambitions.

Elections for the 577 seats in the lower house National Assembly are decided over two rounds, with the shape of the new parliament becoming clear only after the second round on 19 June.
