According to the reports, former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman has refused to become the chief of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Former India captain Rahul Dravid is set to become head coach of the Indian men’s national cricket team. As a result, the BCCI is on the lookout for a new head of the academy.

As per Sports Tak, the BCCI approached VVS Laxman for the top job but he refused. The board is looking for someone who has made a significant contribution to Indian cricket, the report added.

The 46-year-old is regarded as one of the best Indian batsmen to have ever played in the long format of the game. Laxman has scored 8781 runs in 134 matches, at an impressive average of 45.97 including 17 hundred and 56 fifties. Meanwhile, VVS Laxman is a mentor of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL. He is also a batting consultant for Bengal in the domestic cricket scene.

Former India captain, Rahul Dravid is the frontrunner to be the next head coach of the Indian men’s team. It is understood that BCCI officials had discussions with Dravid before the IPL final, and he has agreed to the role.

As per The Times of India, Dravid’s contract will run till 2023. He will take over the job after T20 World Cup 2021, which ends in November. Dravid is presently the head of the National Cricket Academy. He will leave that post before taking over as India’s head coach. Dravid will be joined by Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach while Vikram Rathour will continue as the batting coach.

The 48-year-old has been a key contributor in building up a strong Indian bench strength. He has played a key role in the rise of Indian youngsters over the last few years. Including the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, etc. He has also won a U-19 World Cup in 2018 as an India coach. Rahul Dravid recently went to Sri Lanka as head coach of India’s limited-overs squad. India won the ODI series 2-1 in Sri Lanka but lost the T20I series 1-2 under the coaching stint of Dravid.
