The “Wagatha Christie” row is rumbling on into another week with the claim that Jamie Vardy has apparently deleted Wayne Rooney from his Instagram in solidarity with his wife.

Former England teammates Jamie and Wayne appear to have been drawn into the bitter spat between their wives Rebekah and Coleen, which kicked off last week when, following some amateur detective work, Coleen alleged that her fellow Wag’s Instagram account was the source of information for tabloid stories about her.

Coleen posted a lengthy statement on Twitter about having spent months trying to work out who had been leaking stories from her private Instagram account to The Sun, eventually narrowing it down to one account by blocking everyone else and posting fake updates to see if they made it into the newspaper.

In the saga, dubbed “Wag-ileaks”, Coleen sensationally revealed that the one account that had access to the false stories was Rebekah’s. The latter then strenuously denied it was her and suggested her account may have been hacked or used by someone else she had given the password to.

Jamie is thought to be as angry as his heavily pregnant wife that the Rooneys played the drama out so publicly instead of speaking to them in private first, and The Sun now claims that sources have revealed Jamie has unfollowed Wayne on Instagram.

The list of accounts Jamie is following does not include Wayne, and although Wayne’s Instagram account shows he is still following Jamie, it’s unclear whether Jamie has blocked him from seeing any private updates only made available to close family and friends.

The pair had previously got on well but Jamie is backing his wife, who was snapped in floods of tears as she arrived back at Heathrow from a holiday in Dubai at the weekend.

Rebekah also posted an open letter to Coleen on social media in response to the claims, saying: “I’m not being funny but I don’t need the money, what would I gain from selling stories on you?

“I liked you a lot Coleen and I’m so upset that you have chosen to do this, especially when I’m heavily pregnant.”

“I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this. You should have called me the first time this happened.”

Both couples are said to have instructed lawyers to communicate with each other about the allegations now.

The fake stories that Coleen posted to her Instagram account that made their way into the tabloids included one about travelling to Mexico to pursue a gender selection pregnancy, another about returning to a TV career, and a third about basement flooding in her new house.
