A thug has been spared jail after he assaulted his ex-girlfriend in her home for the second time.

Lee Revis, who has an appalling 137 offences on his record, was told by a judge that his "feet won't touch the floor" and she will immediately send him to prison if he offends again after his latest violent outburst. A court heard that the 43-year-old had travelled to his former partner's address in Morpeth but immediately turned aggressive when she told him she was going out with friends.

As a result, the drunk brute followed her to her bathroom, where he "forcibly" tried to open the door while attempting to hit her, prosecutors said. Revis then went back upstairs and smashed the woman's laptop.

Newcastle Magistrates' Court was told that it was the second time in six months that Revis had assaulted the victim. Giving him a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, District Judge Kate Meek said: "You appear to be unable to control your temper. You need to sort yourself out, it's that straightforward. There's no excuse for violence towards anybody but particularly against those you are in a relationship with."

The judge added: "You should be ashamed of your attitude and ashamed of your behaviour. I can only hope that some of the work you now have to do with the Probation Service under this order will help and we won't see you again.

"If you come back to court for a similar offence, you're feet won't touch the floor, do you understand? I reserve any breaches of this order to myself, so I will be dealing with you."

A court heard that Revis, of Kennington Grove, in Walker, went round to his former partner's home on April 13 this year and became abusive when she told him she was going out. Prosecutor, Paul Coulson, said: "The defendant said "you're not going out, watch what happens". The complainant continued to get ready.

"The defendant continued to be aggressive, calling her a flat s*** and a fat mess." Mr Coulson said that the victim ran to her bathroom, which was when Revis followed and assaulted her.

John Brown, defending, said Revis had mental health issues and had problems with drugs. He added: "Mr Revis has spent his whole life in and out of prison."

Revis was also made subject of a two-year restraining order and must pay the victim £250 compensation.
