It's safe to say that many Walking Dead fans were less than pleased with season seven, something that one of the show's biggest stars has now acknowledged.

Norman Reedus, aka Daryl, has opened up about filming the upcoming eighth season of the show, revealing that he has enjoyed the experience much more than last time around.

"Season 8 feels like our old show again," he told Entertainment Weekly. "The people I like working with the most are the ones I'm working with again. The gang's back together. The fight's back in it.

"Last year was so rough. It didn't feel like our show and I know it is our show, and you've got to do stuff like that, but last year felt so disconnected. Everyone was so disconnected in the core group. So it feels like it used to feel again, which is really exciting."

Daryl spent much of season seven as a prisoner of Negan, where he was constantly tortured and forced to listen to terrible music away from much of the rest of the group.

Reedus said his sole motive in season eight is just getting his own back, adding: "He's just got revenge on his mind this year.

"He's ready to kill everybody, no matter what the group says, no matter what anybody says. He's just like, 'Nah, screw it. Everybody dies.' He's very focused on revenge."

We are certainly expecting good things from season eight, especially after Jesus star Tom Payne promised that it would be "out-of-this-world amazing".

"The audience is going to be very happy with the direction we're taking. We're all really happy," he said.

The Walking Dead returns for its eighth season on Sunday (October 22) on AMC in the US and October 23 on FOX in the UK.
