Batten down those apocalyptic hatches, because The Walking Dead is going to be around for many years yet.

Why? Because it makes too much money.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the CEO of AMC Josh Sapan has credited the show's success in generating both massive audiences and revenue for its "long life". There's no undead here.

"The show continues to have creative strength and command a large and loyal audience, which has in turn attracted ad revenue to our great benefit," Sapan explained.

"The Walking Dead remains the number one show on television among younger viewers by a very wide margin. [It] is a franchise that will deliver ancillary revenues over different distribution platforms for many years to come..."

One way in which The Walking Dead won't be making ancillary revenue is through its range of T-shirts in Primark, which were recently removed after a complaint of "racism".

The retailer sparked controversy over a shirt with a picture of Lucille, Negan's beloved baseball bat, alongside the accompanying words: "Eeny meeny miny moe."

One shopper was unhappy with the catchphrase being used, as an older version of the rhyme used the word "n***er" instead of "tiger" in the line: "Catch a tiger by the toe."

While the T-shirt was eventually pulled and Primark has since apologised, one person who wasn't happy to see the back of the shirt was the show's central villain himself, Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

"Holy crap, people are stupid," he tweeted, making his feelings on the matter very clear.

The Walking Dead continues next Sunday (February 26) on AMC in the US, and on Monday (February 27) on FOX in the UK.
