The Walking Dead's latest season eight trailer brings together the leaders of Alexandria, the Hilltop and the Kingdom to take a bloody and brutal stand against Negan.

The enemies of the Saviours are presumably expecting to hear a battle plan, but Rick makes the powerful point that their most valuable weapon can't be found in Alexandria's ammo locker.

"The world is ours - by right," Rick tells his allies. "We've come together for it, all of us."

"We need to keep our faith in each other," Maggie (Lauren Cohan) agrees. "If we can hold onto that with everything we have, the future is ours. The world is ours!"

If only inspiring speeches could win the day. As AMC's latest preview foreshadows, Carl (Chandler Riggs) will come closer than ever to becoming zombie food and lots of stuff is going to blow up before the war is won.

But following a season-long build-up to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) rebelling against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), The Walking Dead's all-out war will definitely come to a head before the season ends.

"The war will absolutely be resolved by the end of season 8," Scott M. Gimple recently assured Entertainment Weekly. "Absolutely."

Michonne actress Danai Gurira has also promised that season eight will be the most unpredictable run of episodes in the zombie apocalypse drama's history.

"We don't tend to tread the same ground twice," she teased. "It is a deeply different season premiere – deeply, deeply different and unpredictable and very, very rich in the story that's being told and powerfully acted and all of that.

"That's what's amazing about the writers of the show. You can't be prepared for it. If you thought, 'Well, I've seen this, I've seen that, so I can be prepared for what's coming next' – no, you can't. You won't be prepared."

The Walking Dead launches its eighth season with a super-sized premiere on October 22 on AMC in the US and October 23 on FOX in the UK. Watch a trailer below:
