Rick Grimes declares victory in his bloody battle with Negan and the Saviours in the latest Walking Dead season eight teaser.

The leader of the Alexandria Safe-Zone seems supremely confident in the new clip, having formed an alliance with neighbour Hilltop and the Kingdom to take down their common foes.

"The world is ours," he tells his troops. "With everything we've beat. Everything we've become. No matter what comes next, we've already won."

It's an inspiring sentiment, but we hardly expect victory to be so easily achieved when the alliance actually go into All Out War with Negan and his Saviours this season.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple has already promised that All Out War will unleash carnage on both sides, leading some to catastrophic deaths rocking both Rick and Negan's forces.

"There are some big deaths this season, but I think they'll possibly catch people by surprise," the writer recently teased.

Could one of those deaths actually be Rick himself? We already know that the show has a time-jump of sorts in the works for Rick this season, and death might not be out of the question either.

"No-one is safe," Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman revealed at Comic-Con. "Hopefully there have been points where you go, 'Is this it? Is this where Rick dies?' And he doesn't.

"One day, the moment will come where you go, 'Oh my god, it is!' It could happen any time between now and 50 years from now."

The Walking Dead launches its eighth season on October 22 on AMC in the US and October 23 on FOX in the UK.
