The Walking Dead is recruiting two new characters to its cast. Fortunately, it looks like they'll be good guys.

TV Line reports that the AMC series is casting two new male characters to join the Alexandrian side of the "all-out war" yet to come.

The first is Dillon, who's described as "a sexy, blue-collar 20-something whose survival skills include sarcasm".

So think Spencer – only with way more guts.

The second is a character called Abbud, billed as "an innately likeable Muslim American whose nerves are jangled, because he's flown solo for too long in zombieland".

Casting information for the roles also suggests that Dillon is the character more likely to stick around, with possible series regular potential further down the line.

So have fun juggling Dwight, Daryl and Dillon, Walking Dead fans.

Filming on the eighth season of The Walking Dead started this week, and the good news is showrunner Scott Gimple has said the series will be leaving those single-arc episodes behind.

"We knew we wanted to mix it up in 8, and we knew what 8 was going to be and how that would dictate a very different kind of structure," Gimple explained.

"So, yeah, things are going to move, and possibly not have the kind of deep dives into characters in single episodes, but rather laying out the pieces as we go on."

The Walking Dead returns to AMC and Fox later in 2017.
