The finale of The Walking Dead is upon us, but it's hard not to get a little bit excited for what's to come next season.

War is coming, with Rick Grimes and Negan on opposite sides, and Andrew Lincoln – who plays the Alexandria leader – reckons it will be worth the wait.

"We're going to come out swinging [in the season seven finale]," he told the Los Angeles Times. "And it's not going to stop.

"I'm more excited for season eight than I've ever been. I think it's going to be big, but it's also going to be terrifying.

"And I mean that from the very depths of my cynical soul."

Not much is known about season eight yet, but it seems safe to assume that a large part of it will follow Alexandria, Hilltop, and The Kingdom teaming up against Negan's Saviors.

The TV show also has an extra community in the mix – the junkyard group led by Jadis, who struck a deal with Rick to work alongside Alexandria.

The season seven finale, titled 'The First Day of the Rest of Your Life', has been compared to Braveheart by Norman Reedus (Daryl), while Lennie James (Morgan) has said that he "jumped up and down like a giddy schoolboy" when he read the script.

Seems like one to watch.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX in the UK.
