We can't be the only ones who think that the latest season of The Walking Dead is particularly brutal, what with all the many fan favourite characters getting killed off left, right and centre.

But, shocking and upsetting as they are, they are what keep us coming back to a show that has had some glacial pacing as of late.

And it turns out Morgan actor Lennie James feels the same, revealing that the slow pace and splitting up of the cast has made for some gruelling filming.

Speaking to NME, the actor said: "(It was) horrible, just horrible – I swear to God, horrible.

"But it was the same for everybody. Everyone's had more time off this season than they've ever had, but it's horrible. I hated it, and I complained about it – and I'm not a complainer – every day.

"'How you doing Lennie?' I hate it! 'You want tea or coffee?' I hate it! It was horrible, because you just didn't see anybody.

"And because we filmed The Kingdom in a completely different area to where they were filming Alexandria, the Hilltop, or the Saviors, it meant that no one was close to each other."

Elaborating on how bad it was, James said he only got to see castmate and friend Andrew Lincoln on a plane back to London despite living close to each other during filming, and met tons of new cast members for the first time at the wrap parties.

"I told [showrunner Scott M Gimple]: 'I see what you're doing, I respect what you're doing, but don't ever do this to me again because I hate it.'"

The Walking Dead is currently on hiatus and will return with eight more episodes on February 12 on AMC in the US and a day later - February 13 - on FOX in the UK.

And with most of the gang having been reunited in the last episode, here's hoping the cast don't stay apart for too much longer during filming too.
