The Walking Dead ‘working on’ bringing back Lauren Cohan’s Maggie for season 10

Lauren Cohan may have departed The Walking Dead amid salary disputes with US broadcaster AMC and the opportunity to star in a high-profile spy series on a rival network, but it hasn’t meant her fan-favourite character Maggie will be gone for good from the series.

According to Angela Kang, The Walking Dead’s showrunner, they are “working on” bringing Cohan back into the fold for its forthcoming tenth season.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kang played coy, explaining: “I’m not sure if I can say much about it right now actually. I’ll just say that we’re working on it.”

Cohan departed The Walking Dead in 2018 after months of negotiations with AMC over the size of her salary. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she did not want pay parity with stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, but a fair increase in salary that matched her status as a favourite among fans.

Ultimately, she signed on to the short-lived ABC spy series Whiskey Cavalier and negotiated to appear in a limited capacity in The Walking Dead’s ninth season. Her character Maggie did not receive an unambiguous ending, however. Instead Maggie was written out of the series by having other characters explain that she had departed the Hilltop survivors’ colony off-screen, leaving her return a possibility.
