Norman Reedus has become the latest Walking Dead star to admit that filming the first half of season seven kind of sucked.

The main cast of the AMC series were separated across several different locations: Alexandria, Hilltop, the Sanctuary, the Kingdom, the Tara episode.

Reedus, who plays the badass Daryl Dixon, said he wasn't a fan being isolated from everybody else – but did say the pain was worth it in the end.

"I mean, I understand when characters go through certain things, and mostly they're cut off from the rest of the group, but I didn't even see anybody," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"I was in a hole by myself, naked. It just did not feel right to me.

"I'd talk to Gimple, and I'd be like, 'Man, this sucks. I hate this'. And he'd be like, 'You're supposed to'. I'm like, 'Oh, there you go'. You know what I mean?

"He was right. It was supposed to suck, and it did suck – for me, anyway. But you know, it just makes coming back together that much more special."

Lennie James (Morgan) also said he "hated" the production of 7A, saying it was "horrible".

"You just didn't see anybody," he told Digital Spy. "We film the Kingdom in a completely different area where they were filming either Alexandria or Hilltop or where the Saviors were... no-one was close to each other."

And Danai Gurira (Michonne) said she found it so tough, she "couldn't eat".

Andrew Lincoln (Rick) recently said that he stands by the writers and directors, praising the "brave, bold, and also challenging story" they were creating.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC in the US at 9/8c on Sunday, February 12. Fans in the UK can catch the start of season 7B on Monday, February 13 at 9pm on FOX.
