Walrus Whistles Along to Special Double Bass Performance

Walruses enjoyed an intimate mini-concert at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington, recently.

Footage shared by the zoo on September 15 shows walruses Pakak and Mitik being serenaded by staff member and classically trained musician Rosemary Ponnekanti.

Ponnekanti played bass for the pair, who watched the performance intently – with Mitik even whistling along to the tune.

“Having live music is definitely enriching for them,” said Caryn Carter, a keeper at the zoo.

“Sometimes we play recorded music to them, or even videos, and they really get a lot out of the experience,” she added. Credit: Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium via Storyful
