Fans think the latest episode of WandaVision has secretly revealed the villain for the forthcoming Doctor Strange sequel.

It has long been reported that the Disney+ original series, which stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany as Wanda Maximoff and Vision, will tie into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in some way.

And some fans suspect that one character from episode three of WandaVision will have a pivotal role to play.

WandaVision focuses on Wanda and Vision (who was seemingly killed during the events of Avengers: Infinity War) as they live in eerie domestic bliss throughout a succession of sitcom parodies. The first three episodes placed the couple in 1950s, 1960s and 1970s-style sitcoms, with no explanation given for their strangely artificial situation.

Particular attention has been paid to the character of “Dottie”, played by former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Emma Caulfield Ford.

While Dottie initially appears as a haughty neighbour, some fans have suggested her character could hold greater significance. In episode two, Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) mentions that Dottie is “key to everything in this town”.

After Dottie notes that the “devil’s in the detail” during episode two of the series, Agnes again hints: “That’s not the only place he is.”

Fans have theorised that she is in fact an alter-ego of Clea, a superpowered sorcerer who becomes a disciple and later lover of Doctor Strange.

Others have suggested that Dottie is in fact Mephisto, and will be revealed to be the villain behind WandaVision’s otherworldly shenanigans.

Elsewhere, some WandaVision viewers have noticed a subtle Easter egg nodding to Caulfield Ford’s role on Buffy.

WandaVision continues on Disney+ every Friday.
