Want To Work On The World’s Remotest Island? Now You Can
Hard to reach: The remote island of Tristan De Cunha.
Suffering from the January blues? A job on the world’s remotest island could be the answer - although we should point out just how desolate it is.
The island of Tristan De Cunha is located in the South Atlantic, where there’s an opening for a farmer who is able to advise locals on important agricultural matters.
But with the island only being accessible by plane from South Africa nine times a year, it’s fair to say that you’ll have to get pretty comfortable once you arrive.
Luckily, there’s a pub on the island to while away the hours - along with the 265 locals who are hoping that the new arrival will help to cut down the island’s dependence on imported food.
The job advert states: ‘The job advert on the National Farmers’ Union website says: ‘The island has approximately 1,000 acres of poor grazing land for 300 cattle and 500 sheep.
‘The community produces potatoes in family-run allotments, but intend to harvest fruits, vegetables and other crops to reduce its reliance on imported foodstuffs.’
Alan Brown, head of job website nfuonline, who are advertising the vacancy, said: ‘This is the most interesting and unique opportunity that I have seen advertised on NFU job pages to date.
‘I hope there is a UK farmer out there who seizes the opportunity to take on this unique challenge and bring a flavour of British farming to the world’s most remote inhabited island..
