Warner Bros filming in Greenwich as tents, lighting and rigs set up at Old Royal Naval College

Filming for a major movie is taking place in Greenwich today (Thursday, September 26) with rigs, lighting and tents set up at a famous college. Actors and camera operators are busy at work around the Old Royal Navy College for an upcoming Warner Bros production, though it's unclear what the scene were being filmed for.

Security guards have blocked off Queen Mary Court, an old hospital building with an elegant dome and stretching corridors. Tents, trailers, and vans line the surrounding streets.

Two towering cranes were set up to shine into two windows on the top floor, presumably to provide lighting for indoor filming. Inside the barricade, crew members fiddled with myriad equipment and hurried up and down the corridors, some carrying hulking cameras while others speaking into walkie-talkies.

Passers-by can catch occasional glimpses of actors dressed in historical garb. A young woman dons a white lace dress with a bridal-esque veil flowing around her hair, while two older ladies wore floral blouses and old-fashioned hats. A post on Reddit also reports actors dressed in red military uniforms.

Police officers on scene confirmed that the production company is Warner Bros. They also attributed the nearby black cars and uniformed soldiers to a ceremonial function.

Although nobody on set is allowed to disclose the production’s name, it's possible to make educated guesses from the list of Warner Bros upcoming projects that match the bill. A third Sherlock Holmes movie starring Robert Downey Jr, for example, would be set in 1900s England, with the costumes appearing to match the early 20th Century period. In addition, the fourth Fantastic Beasts movie, starring Eddie Redmayne, could also be bringing magic to the Greenwich site as it's set in a similar period.

Known for its architectural splendour, Old Royal Navy College was designed by Christopher Wren and named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has been used as a hospital and a training ground – as well as a setting for many films on the big screen.
