Residents have been warned to 'stay away' from frozen water after a man and woman had to be rescued from a freezing pond in Bedworth. Both had reportedly jumped into Sidings Pool off Smorrall Lane to rescue their two dogs.

Crews from Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service, West Midlands Ambulance Service, and Warwickshire Police were dispatched to Sidings Pool at around 11.45am on Saturday (January 11). Two people were found 'in distress' in the freezing water and had to be rescued.

Firefighters rescued the man and woman, who have not been identified, using life buoys, throw lines, and life rings. Paramedics assessed the pair and found that they were suffering from hypothermia, as previously reported by CoventryLive.

Both received treatment at the scene before being taken to George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton. Today, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service urged people to say 'stay well away' from frozen water and keep dogs on leads near iced-over ponds and lakes to prevent similar incidents from happening.

In a statement issued today (January 13), Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service (WFRS) said: “We were alerted to reports of individuals in distress in a frozen pool near Smorrall Lane in Bedworth. Two WFRS crews attended alongside a crew from West Midlands Fire Service.

Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended. Two adults were rescued from the water using life buoys, throw lines, and life rings.

“We would like to remind all residents of the importance of staying well away from frozen water and keeping dogs on leads when nearby. It helps to keep you, your pets, and those around you who may attempt to rescue you safe. If anyone is in trouble in frozen water, always call 999 immediately.”
