Warning issued to motorists after fuel thefts reported on A17
Officers are warning motorists to be vigilant after reports of fuel thefts taking place along the A17. In recent weeks, Sleaford Police has received a small number of reports of fuel thefts.
Drivers are being told to stay cautious when parking in laybys or close to arterial routes around the county. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 7, Sleaford Police stated: "Please be vigilant when parking in lay by's or near to arterial routes around the county.
"Sleaford Police have received a small number of reports regarding fuel thefts along the A17 over recent weeks." Some precautions that can be taken include locking fuel caps and using anti-siphoning deterrents.
Motorists can also park vehicles in a way that makes the fuel tanks as inaccessible as possible or by parking in a highly visible well-lit area or secure compound. Anyone who notices people loitering around vehicles has been asked by the force to take note of the time, date and location, as well as a description of the person.
The post adds: "If you are a victim of fuel theft or witness any suspicious behaviour please report it by calling 999 in an emergency or 101."
