A new weather map shows regions in the UK set to face harsh winter weather amid yellow snow warnings in the coming days. The Met Office has issued yellow warnings for parts of Northern England and southern Scotland on Monday and Tuesday, with up to eight inches of snow possible.

The Mirror reports that the warnings covers these regions, parts of Yorkshire, and parts of north-west England, and are set to be in force from 10am on Monday (November 18) until 10am on Tuesday (November 19). There is a separate warning for snow and ice in place for northern Scotland from 4pm tomorrow (November 17) until 11am on Monday.

Chief meteorologist at the Met Office, Rebekah Hicks, said: "A notable early winter cold spell will arrive across the north from Sunday and will likely reach all parts of the UK by midweek. Temperatures will drop as a northerly airflow develops, bringing in colder Arctic air.

"This introduces the possibility of snow, initially over high ground in the north from Sunday, with gusty winds also a potential hazard," she said.

Rebekah explained that computer model showed different scenarios for the week ahead. She added: "There is a lot of uncertainty in what might happen after Sunday, but there are a number of scenarios which could bring some more widespread rain, along with some hill snow and stronger winds.

"It is possible that there may be some more widespread snowfall across lower ground, but the chance of this for any given region is low at this stage. What we do know is that the whole of the UK is likely to experience a spell of several days of cold, potentially disruptive weather next week. Warnings for wintry hazards, including snow and ice, are possible."

The Met Office's long-range forecast from November 19 to November 28 says cold or very cold conditions are likely to affect most, if not all, parts of the UK. The worst conditions are set to hit northern areas and exposed coastal districts, forecasters said. There is also a widespread risk of overnight frost and strong winds, resulting in wind chill.

For Coventry, today will be cloudy with drizzle, with possibilities of heavy bursts through the afternoon, with a maximum temperature of 12C. Tonight will be feeling colder with a touch of frost possible in rural spots, with a minimum temperature of 3C.

Here is the Met Office outlook for Coventry over the next few days:

Sunday:

A chilly but bright start with sunny intervals into the afternoon. Turning cloudier later with outbreaks of rain and stronger winds developing. Maximum temperature 8 °C.

Outlook for Monday to Wednesday:

Wet and windy on Monday followed by showery rain, heavy at times on Tuesday. Drier and brighter on Wednesday. Turning colder with overnight frosts.
