Warren Vows to Visit Migrant Children's Detention Center in Florida Ahead of Debate

US presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren said she would visit the Homestead migrant detention center in Florida ahead of the Democratic debate on Thursday, June 26, in response to a plea from a woman at her town hall in Miami.

“Right now, my biggest concern is for the children who have traveled from violent countries, who have run for their lives, to safety as refugees, and are now being separated from family members by our Border Patrol,” says the woman. “Just 20 miles away from here, in Homestead, there is a children’s prison … I know your heart is with those children, but we need you there, we need your presence, to bring the press, to bring national attention.”

In response, Warren said, “I’m going to Homestead tomorrow – come with me.” Her response drew cheers and applause from the crowd. Credit: Elizabeth Warren via Storyful
