Warrington Wolves player ratings as Williams stars but others unimpressive

Warrington Wolves secured their passage to the Super League play-off semi-finals in dramatic circumstances, as a golden point drop goal from George Williams saw them overcome St Helens in an outstanding game. After struggling early, the Wolves worked their way into the game and overcame a late scare to final win it, securing a semi-final clash at Hull KR in the process. Here are the player ratings.

Matt Dufty - 8: Came up with some massive kick returns at big moments when Warrington were struggling through the middle.

Josh Thewlis - 5: Came up with some poor errors throughout the game, though deserves credit for some important goal-kicking.

Rodrick Tai - 6: Had a decent enough game with one particularly strong carry. A few shaky defensive moments.

Toby King - 6: Two tries, but some sloppy moments defensively in the first half.

Matty Ashton - 7: Bagged a brace and did a strong job in yardage. Another good performance in a great season.

Josh Drinkwater - 7: Relatively quiet but came up with some big plays, including the chase down of the loose pass which created Ashton's second try.

George Williams - 9: An exceptional performance from the England captain, proving the matchwinner at the end, but also providing two outstanding assists.

Luke Yates - 8: Brought in for games like these and proved exactly why. Phenomenal shift.

Danny Walker - 7: Feeding off scraps for parts of the game but showed his toughness defensively here.

Zane Musgrove - 5: St Helens' pack had the better of him which saw them get on top in the opening stages of the game.

John Bateman - 6: A tough performance from the England star, without being spectacular.

Matty Nicholson - 8: Showed how far he has come with this performance. Was a key instigator in Warrington's defensive intensity.

Ben Currie - 7: Went under the radar but don't overlook his contributions.

Sam Powell - 5: Came up with some costly errors in the closing stages of the game, which you wouldn't expect from a man of his experience.

James Harrison - 5: Had a great season but this wasn't his best game, worked hard though.

Paul Vaughan - 6: Came off the bench and helped stem the momentum St Helens had built.

Joe Philbin - 9: The game turned once he came on the field. Warrington were far better when he came on.
