Washington Mayor Renames Street Near White House 'Black Lives Matter Plaza'

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser announced on June 5 that a section of 16th Street near the White House had been renamed ‘Black Lives Matter Plaza.’

Mayor Bowser, a Democrat, also unveiled a ‘Black Lives Matter’ mural painted onto 16th Street. Local artist Rose Jaffe said she and others joined city work crews to paint the slogan, starting around 4 am, the Washington Post reported. Credit: Mayor Muriel Bowser via Storyful
