WASPI women have been warned by experts the new Labour Party government and Department for Work and Pensions have "no money" for them. BBC Money Box star Paul Lewis has shared the warning via Twitter, now X, after picking up on comments from Labour Party MP Emma Reynolds.

"This looks like no compensation for 50s born women over state pension age rises which was recommended by Ombudsman. The problem is Emma is in two depts. The DWP under-sec may want to pay but the Treasury Parly Sec (who outranks) says no!" he said.

This afternoon he tweeted comments by Emma Reynolds, who is both the Parliamentary Secretary of HM Treasury, and the Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. She wrote: "The Government believes the best way to support people, including women who have been affected by the change to the State Pension Age, is to help them to retrain, return to our progress in work.

"That is why the Government is performing employment support to ensure it supports people of all ages and we will set up more details in a forthcoming White Paper. For those women who are unable to work but who are not eligible for pensioner benefits because of their age, financial support is still available through the welfare system."

"I can guarantee that my 65 yo wife would tell her where to go if someone suggested she retrain and carry on working! I really think 50 years of working is quite enough!" a Twitter/X user replied. A second said: "Anyone affected will be retired now so retraining or going back to work are not realistic options. I really hoped that the adults were in the room now, but maybe not. Who decides and writes nonsense like this?"

A third fumed: "Back to court through CEDAW then it has to be. They cannot just ignore it. They have been given every opportunity to talk & negotiate but not forthcoming, that’s not acceptable."
