The Bentley Continental GT is the British luxury car company’s best-selling model for a reason: it’s effortlessly elegant, hits 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds and boasts 582bhp.

But all that style and power counts for nothing when you’re stuck in the sand – and need a tractor to help you out – as this video shows. Imagine the shame.

The celebrated model may cost £150,000 to buy new, but the owner of this particular Bentley found the car no match for the England seaside.

Despite its 12 cylinder, 5998cc turbocharged engine, the car need to be tugged out of the sand on Marazion beach, Cornwall.

With the motor weighing a total of 2,350 kg – nearly two and a half tonnes – it’s easy to see how the mishap happened.

Although the tug rope twice comes lose – and in the video, below, the Bentley is left in the sand – the car was eventually pulled free.

The Continental accounted for more than 50 per cent of Bentley’s sales last year. More than 52,000 have been sold since its introduction back in 2003.
