Watch Brittanee Drexel's Mom Confront Man Who Killed Teen on Spring Break: 'You Face the Consequences'
The case of Brittanee Drexel, who was murdered after she vanished during a spring break trip to S.C., is featured on tonight's '20/20'
For more than a decade, Dawn Drexel waited for answers about what happened to her vivacious daughter, Brittanee Drexel, who vanished in 2009 during a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.
After many tears, countless sleepless nights and a lengthy investigation, in May 2022, convicted sex offender Raymond Moody was arrested and charged with rape, murder and kidnapping in connection with the upstate New York teen’s disappearance and death.
In Oct. 2022, Moody pleaded guilty in court to raping and killing Brittanee — and tonight's episode of 20/20 examines the case and Brittanee's family's quest for justice.
Moody was sentenced to life in prison plus thirty years for first-degree murder for kidnapping, raping and strangling the 17-year-old high school soccer star who dreamed of becoming a nurse or cosmetologist, the Democrat & Chronicle reports.
"I was a monster," Moody said in court after entering his guilty plea, the Democrat & Chronicle reports.
In an exclusive clip from this week’s 20/20, Dawn is shown confronting Moody in court on the day he pleaded guilty to killing her daughter.
“Today we know the truth and today, Mr. Moody, you face the consequences for that,” Dawn said to him. “Brittanee is present,” she said. “I wear her picture and her ashes around my neck. That’s all I have left. That’s all we have left after what you did to her.”
Recalling the strong emotions she felt that day, Dawn says on this week’s 20/20, “He wouldn’t even look at me. I was shaking. I was that mad.”
The two-hour episode will also give viewers an exclusive inside look at how an FBI team finally arrested Moody, who had been a person of interest for more than 10 years, ABC News reported.

On April 22, 2009, Brittanee joined a group of friends who were going to Myrtle Beach for spring break, but didn't tell her parents.
On April 25, 2009, Brittanee left her hotel alone and headed to the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard, the busy main drag in Myrtle Beach, to visit a friend who was staying there.
She was last seen at about 8:45 p.m. when surveillance cameras captured her leaving the hotel.
She texted her boyfriend back home that she was walking back to the Bar Harbor, a motor inn a mile and a half down the road, where she and her friends were staying.
Moody was living an hour from Myrtle Beach — at a motel in Georgetown, S.C., in 2009, when Brittanee was last seen, investigators said.
According to authorities, Moody kidnapped Drexel as she walked alone along the Myrtle Beach strip.
ABC's 20/20 airs Friday, March 8 (9:01-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC, and the next day on Hulu.
