Watch the crazy moment e-scooter rider travels on M5

A daredevil e-scooter rider was spotted making a brazen journey up the hard shoulder of the M5. Onlookers captured footage of the shocking incident earlier today (Monday, September 16) near junction 18A.

The alarming video was shared on a M5 Traffic and Travel Facebook group alongside the caption: "Why would anyone think this is a good idea? " To add to the dangerous situation, the individual in question appeared not to be wearing a helmet.

There were reports from eyewitnesses indicating that at the time of the sighting, a 20mph speed restriction was in place along that stretch of the motorway, as one person remarked: "It was 20 miles per hour from Avonmouth past Cribbs, the gantry said oncoming vehicle."

The comments section turned into a forum for worried motorists expressing their concern over the event, where one user pointed out: "This is getting out of hand quite a few e-scooters been stop(ped) on motorways in last 8 months."

Another following comment mentioned: "See this every other day. These people aren't used to driving with rules and regulations. Their standard of awareness is nonexistent."

Avon and Somerset Police have been contacted for more information. GOV. UK states that private e-scooters are not allowed on public roads including motorways, even though trial e-scooters can be used on roads (with the exception of motorways) and bike lanes.

However, these still come with clear restrictions: "You may use a trial e-scooter on the road (except motorways) and in cycle lanes. You must not use an e-scooter on the pavement."

Earlier this year, a man was hit with a 20-month driving ban and ordered to pay £533 in fines and costs after he was caught riding an e-scooter under the influence on the M5 between Taunton and Bridgwater.
