WATCH: Downton Abbey Stars Hilariously Recreate Scene With American Accents

Downtown Abbey is unmistakably British - so the thought of it being set Stateside is almost unimaginable.

However, maybe it’s not as out the question as we initially though considering just what fab American accents the cast is capable of.

Appearing on the Late Late Show over in the US, Downton Abbey actors Michelle Docherty, Hugh Bonneville and Alan Leech were challenged to showcase their best American accents.

And would you believe it – they weren’t too shabby.

Host Alan Leech handed out the script from an actual episode of Downtown which the cast recreated with a US twist.

Much to the hilarity of the studio audience.

Downtown Abbey has proved as much of a success in the US as it is here and is a regular fixture on telly boxes across the pond.

Maggie Smith was even awarded a Best Supporting Golden Globe for her portrayal of Lady Violet in the period drama.

While the final episode of the show aired last month the cast will be back for a one off Christmas special much to the delight of fans either side of the Atlantic.

As well as its popularity in America, Downton has a growing following in Denmark, Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Norway, Belgium, Israel and Iceland, and is screened around the world.
