Watch dramatic moment burst Guildford hydrant sprays water 20 ft high in the air

People in Guildford may have spotted an unusual water feature on Monday afternoon.

A burst hydrant on the junction of Manor Road and Woodbridge Hill sent water spurting high up into the air and across the road. The area is just off the A3 near Lidl at the Ladymead retail park.

Images from the scene show water being released into the air with the jet nearing the heights of houses as people try to move past the site. The Incident which occurred around 2pm left some homes with no water or low pressure temporarily, though normality was returned when the issue was fixed.

Thames Water said engineers responded to the burst from a hydrant at the junction of Manor Road and Woodbridge Hill in Guildford. It warned homes and businesses in GU1, GU2 and GU3 could be left with no water or low pressure. Buses were diverted away from the scene of the burst water main as repairs took place:

Later the spurt diminished and a smaller jet of water can be seen coming from the ground. The issue was resolved at around 4pm after Thames Water installed a new hydrant.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: "Yesterday afternoon (Monday 30 September) our engineers responded to a burst from a hydrant at the junction of Manor Road and Woodbridge Hill in Guildford. We completed the repair the same day and all customers should be in supply.”
