British stars Gemma Arterton and Sam Claflin are exploring love and war in Lone Scherfig sweeping new period epic, Their Finest .
The wartime drama, based on the 2009 novel Their Finest Hour and a Half by Lissa Evans, is set in 1940 at the height of World War II. As Allied forces fight Nazi Germany across Europe, in Britain, morale is down among the population. A young, untested screenwriter Catrin (Arterton) takes on the seemingly impossible task of creating a film that will lift the nation’s spirits and inspire America to join the war.
Catrin is teamed with another young scribe, Buckley, played by Claflin, and the two soon develop a close working relationship that blossoms into something much more personal.
In an exclusive clip from the film, Catrin and Buckley ponder their romantic fate as the war, and the pressure of their immense task to revitalize an entire nation’s resolve, threatens to tear them apart.
Their Finest also stars Bill Nighy as a veteran matinée idol who stars in the fictional propaganda film, as well as Richard E. Grant and Jack Huston.
Their Finest is released in the U.K. on April 21.
