Not that we needed reminding of the stars we have lost lately, but the Oscars have paid a beautiful tribute to the movie stars who died over the past twelve months.

With the likes of Alan Rickman and David Bowie included last year, this year's In Memoriam section at the Oscars featured Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Gene Wilder, Anton Yelchin and Prince.

The heartbreaking montage was backed by a performance from Sara Bareilles as she covered Joni Mitchell's 'Both Sides Now'.

Jennifer Aniston teared up as she introduced the segment, with a nod to the shock passing of Bill Paxton.

Following the section, an extended photo gallery of more than 200 film-makers, artists and executives has been posted on the Oscars official website.

Oscars producer Mike De Luca had previously confirmed to PEOPLE that there weren't going to be any changes to the In Memoriam segment.

"The 'In Memoriam' is not different this year, we consider that sacred ground and they do a very good job with that reel. We just upheld the tradition because it's meant to really honour and pay respects to people who have been lost," he explained.

Before her tragic death, a 2010 podcast was revisited where Carrie Fisher revealed she had an Oscars memoriam planned out for herself, involving Harrison Ford and 'Melancholy Wookie'.

"I asked him if he would be in my death reel, and if he would sing. It's just something I want," she joked.

"Because they did that thing with John Hughes. They brought out all these actors who worked with him. So I just figured they'll bring out, depending on, of course, when it happens, there's a lot of people they can bring out."

Sadly there was no Harrison Ford tonight, but it was a wonderful tribute all the same. Now we've run out of tissues though.
