This is the heartwarming moment Texas police joined forces with George Floyd protesters by heeding their request to take a knee.

The group of demonstrators in Fort Worth told police at the scene that they would go home if officers joined them in a show of solidarity.

The two groups then shook hands and even exchanged hugs before leaving the area as promised.

It comes as days of unrest have spread across the US after a white police officer was filmed kneeling on the neck of Mr Floyd for minutes. He later died in police custody.

Cities across the country have been flooded with protests against police brutality following Mr Floyd's death in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mr Floyd was pinned down by officer Derek Chauvin while he protested that he couldn't breath and the 46-year-old later died.

Chauvin has been charged with third-degree murder, and fired from his job with the Minneapolis Police Department along with the three other officers.

However, demonstrations have continued with many calling for Chauvin's charge to be upgraded to first-degree murder as well as charges for the other officers too. Many have turned violent.

During the protests, many US police officers have knelt down during demonstrations to show solidarity with the anti-racism protesters

The touching scene in Texas was documented in a video shared to Twitter by NBC 5 reporter Scott Gordon.

He wrote in the caption: "Protesters just told police on bullhorn if officers took a knee they would go home.

"Officers took a knee. Protesters came up to cops and shook their hands, hugged. them. Remarkable."

According to NBC 5 News, the encounter between the protesters and police began when officers moved towards the Tarrant County Courthouse to enforce an 8pm curfew.

On their arrival, they took out a loudspeaker and told protesters to leave.

However, the protesters had a loudspeaker of their own and yelled back, informing officers that they had no plans to go home.

Tensions reportedly escalated as police moved in until the crowd offered to leave if police took a knee with them.

The officers on the front lines got off their motorbikes and knelt down.

Soon protesters began shaking their hands and hugging the officers, and both parties soon left, keeping their word.

The Fort Worth Police Department later posted messages of solidarity on Twitter, saying: " Respect for the rights of all is our most important duty; human compassion is our most important obligation; and devotion to the safety and welfare of all our community is our solemn pledge.

And later the posted: "We kneel together. We stand together. We're with our community."
